You bet I got a superb excuse! I already had prepared mentally for the hunt. Already had the wife given me written permission. Everything was fine, until we decided to return the rental movies and walked there rather then going by car. It’s a good mile or so one way. The plan was to rest a little at our bar on the way back. We ran into people. 1 beer, 2 beers, a 3rd one to ease the pain to still have to walk back quite a distance. It was 5.30 pm. Told the wife we had to go now. SHE decided to take another route. Saw some people from work standing outside at another bar. THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD HAVE SAID NO. We were invited for 1 beer, 2 beers…….

So the hunt was almost finished when I checked the updates. And when I finally managed to login, no one was around.

What do we learn? When there is hunt you better not leave the house the whole day. It’s too risky out there.

Just to give you an idea what I still need/want to accomplish during the rest of the challenge:

1. Changing caps on my SE/30 logic board.
2. Solving the no-sound problem on the EEE PC under DOS 7.1 and Win 3.11 to play games with sound.
3. Getting software copied in CP/M-86 readable format to become Tweetdecks sweatheart.
4. Getting a newer version of Netscape/IE run on my 520c to blog here.

#2 and #3 I´m going to tackle next week accompanied by an intense preparation for the SE/30 surgery. A friend is involved, the SE from ebay for its powersupply on its way. Missing caps though, which I´m going to order as soon as I picked up my paycheck on Monday.

So, the RC is keeping me busy one way or the other. And if nothing works, there is always some time to kill while having fun drinking…..err….

Okay, may I introduce to you Priscilla, my lady for EVERYTHING. Here you can see her filling up my washer with 4 weeks old nerdy laundry…..ahem…… it’s actually a PDP-11/24 minicomputer priced around $20.000 back then.

I managed to get a bootable floppy of CP/M 86 done with the help of Gaby. This is used to boot the old ThinkPad and make it  fully a CP/M machine.

The only problem is now, what am I going to do with it? Getting software on CP/M readable disks is harder than I thought. The utility program I used didn’t work out quite.

But for your records MacTV: you can add this CP/M operated computer to your list. Farting around with it the next days might result in something “useful”.

What an improvement over MS-DOS. It displays date & time continously at the bottom.

Up for your viewing pleasure are Mum and daughter with their sparkling new TRS-80. Please note that Mom is holding some sort of recipe magazine while the girl with the awful hair is pointing at a blank black TV screen. That raises some questions:

1. Did Mum really expect to program a computer with a recipe?

2. Why did homecomputer makers always think back then that all Mum wants to do is creating a database with her recipes?

3. What is the girl saying? “Look, I can see myself in the TV!”?
